How large can I print the downloaded images?
For the best results when printing from a digital image, print the same size as the original.
However, if an enlarged printed version is required we would recommend an enlargement of no more than 130% (depending on the quality of the printer and printing material).
How long does it take to download an image?
Image download time will depend on your internet connection speed. If you have a 56kb modem the image download time will take substantially longer than if you have a 2Mb ADSL line.
The estimates shown below indicate the approximate download time for 1Mb (1000kb).
- 1Mb (1000kb) image file on 56k modem connection = approximately 2 & 1/2 minutes.
- 1Mb (1000kb) image file on 512k broadband connection = approximately 15 seconds.
How do I get a transparency?
If a transparency (slide) is required, you must first select and download the correct high resolution digital image(s) from the image asset library and write to CD. The CD can then be sent to a local photographic supplier for output.
Can I download a low resolution image?
A low resolution image can be downloaded from the image asset library. First select the image to be downloaded, then click the link “download this image”. You will then be able to select to download either a high or low resolution image or, if required, a small thumbnail.
Do I need to register before I can search?
No, the search facility is fully enabled without logging in.
What happens if I forget my user id/password?
In the 'Members Login' box you will find the 'forgotten your password?' link. Click on this link. On the following page enter your email address and click submit. Your password will be emailed to the entered email address.
Can I edit the image after I have downloaded it?
'Images downloaded from the library must not be edited without prior written consent from DSRL'
How do I use the search function?
You can search for images on the asset library in a number of ways.
Firstly, by key word. For example:
- Nouns that identify the main image subject; eg. B204, Turbine hall, Environment, etc
- Adjectives that describe the nouns; eg. Radioactive, Rusty, Large, Clean, etc
- Verbs that describe the main action in an image; eg. Decommissioning, Welding, Monitoring, etc
